*  Flute Choir Awards and Competition

Sunday 4th September saw the flute choir hosting its second annual tea party/cake eating contest/ awards ceremony and duet competition. Fewer people attended this year but we had a very good quality of playing and also welcomed some new faces to the choir – Lauren and Hannah. The awards were made by our chairperson, Ali – and were as follows-

Junior Player of the Year – awarded to Freya Peter for brilliant attendance, a wonderful dress sense, great humour and a massive improvement in playing. Well done Freya from everyone at flute choir.

Senior Player of the Year – awarded to Olivia Franghiadi for exceptional commitment and a strong sense of resposibility towards all the other members of the group.

Player of the Year and Winner of our Annual Bursary – Beth Handley for a super attitude in rehearsal, willingness to participate at every level and for being an excellent member of the choir – congratulations Beth!!

Duet Competition

We were not exactly over run with entries for this – however, we had 2 – sort of young v old (ha ha) – Olivia and Adele performed some Corelli very stylishly and with lovely ensemble that can probably only occur if you play duets with your sister! Gill and Ali gave the 2 youngsters a run for their money by playing something jazzy about cats – great fun and good timing ladies – just pipped to the post,  though. Well done Adele and Olivia!

*  Birmingham Conservatoire Success!

Both Adele and Olivia are now studying at the junior department of the Birmingham Conservatoire – Adele is studying flute (of course – what else?) as her first study and viola as second and the enormously talented Olivia Franghiadi isn’t even doing flute ! Orchestral percussion and violin are her options! Lovely for both of you girls – well done – and enjoy it!
