Title: Forest Flute Choir 10th Anniversary Concert
Flute Choir concert posterDescription:

The Forest Flute Choir invites all music lovers to join it for a free concert to celebrate a decade of flute playing in The Forest of Dean. The concert will be at Lydney Town Hall on Saturday 23rd April 2016, starting at 7.30pm and entrance is free for everyone. The flute choir will be joined by The Forest of Dean Male Voice Choir under the baton of Tracey Gwynne.
The flute choir will perform a wide variety of music that will appeal to all ages, with a little bit of audience participation! Their repertoire extends from Bach and Purcell right through to Gershwin, jazz and more avant-garde modern pieces. The flute choir recently joined forces with the Cardiff Amateur Flute Ensemble to perform at the Millennium centre in Cardiff and was also invited to perform at the Birmingham Conservatoire with The National Flute Orchestra in The Adrian Boult auditorium.
The Forest flute choir was set up 10 years ago by local teacher and performer, Fiona Crawley, who saw a gap in the market; ‘there are lots of opportunities for brass players and singers in the local area but far fewer for woodwind players – I am always being approached by adults who say – ‘I used to play the flute at school but gave up and now I really regret it!’ Well, we have lots of players who come from far and wide who have recently decided to get back into their flute playing and are really enjoying the experience.’
The flute choir is delighted to be performing once again with The Forest of Dean Male Voice Choir. A spokesperson said, ‘we played our very first concert, in November 2006, with the FoD MVC in Parkend Church so it is especially nice to be sharing a stage with them again. I just hope we have improved!’
The flute choir meets every second Sunday afternoon throughout the school year and performs about 4 concerts per year, normally joining up with another choir or band to raise money for national and local charities. There will be a retiring collection at this year’s birthday concert in order to fund raise for a new instrument; a contra bass flute which will cost in the region of £6000 and is only made in Holland.
